An Open Letter by a Nepali Citizen to Government of India and Indian Media on Nepal Constitution.

Stop Indian government’s Interference on Nepal’s Internal Matters – An Open Letter by a Nepali Citizen to Government of India and Indian Media on Nepal Constitution.

Dear Government of India & Indian media,
Namaste from a Nepali citizen. The purpose of the letter is to raise some relevant questions regarding the current political scenario and constitution
declaration.Nepal and India share very common culture and ethnicity. Our relationship dates back a long time in history. We have lived in harmony with each other.

#BackOffIndia
There are Nepalese residing in India and Indians residing in Nepal, and we have a strong bonding and we also share open border.Let me make it clear,my dear fellow Indian friends,my question is to the govt, and we have nothing against you people. We are brothers.

Since,my childhood,I have been listening to this interference of government of India in our matters.I didn’t understand all these at that time, but now time has passed and I am well aware of the political situation in our country.Let me jump directly to the point.I am awestruck by the response of India towards the recent Constitution declaration in Nepal.Literally, awestruck! In your words, you express your feelings of respect towards Nepal and it’s people but your action doesn’t prove the same. There are many open border countries in the world and I have not seen situation like this elsewhere. You send your ambassador/messenger to Nepal a day before the Constitution declaration, and ask /or in precise words, order our leaders to stop the process. The constitution which we have been waiting since ages,so many people died for this historical moment, after 10 years of the deadlock, finally we feel like our country has come out of this vicious circle, and you are like against it,forcing your words to our leaders.

Does that make you a good neighbor? Ask yourself. The constitution of Nepal was passed by our representatives, elected by a fair election of Constitution Assembly, the constitution was passed by 90% majority, which is itself a record,I guess in South Asia (at least). What can be a more democratic way of declaring constitution than this?Constitution making process is a progressive process.A constitution can not give cent percent satisfaction to everyone which is why there have been revolts in different places of Nepal.I agree the concern of India is the ongoing revolt in Terai/Madhesh region(not all Madhesh region,Indian Media) which shares an open border with India and there’s an upcoming election in Bihar. I well acknowledge your concern, but before asking our leaders to stop constitution declaration, did you try to ask the revolting groups to make a peaceful protest? Did you? If you can come to Kathmandu and ask our leaders to follow your steps and tell them you will not support their decision, why can’t you ask the Madhesi leaders to raise up their voice in calm way? Why?Why an urge to interfere? When the entire world including European Union,US,China etc are welcoming our constitution, why are you spilling the words of hatred? What can you possibly gain by all this?We highly appreciate your help some months back when the earthquake disaster fell upon us,we are thankful for that but we are not a “Yes Man” to agree to whatever you say or intend to command. When the people (of Nepal origin) were protesting for “Gorkhaland”,did our leaders tried to interfere saying ,”No!Government of India, you have to fulfill their demand”.Have we even for once, interfered in your political matters? How would you feel,if a leader from a greater country than yours come to your nation and say “You can’t do this,I won’t support you,”.You have enough problems in India to solve,I won’t go into the detail of all this.Let us do what’s best for us in our ways.

And Dear Indian Media, it’s not just me,a Nepali speaking up against your poor presentation of news and miserable reporting skills.Indian friends have had enough of you in the past as well, and have spoken up for this.Do you even have a dedicated research team, who actually go into the details of what’s happening?Saw a news,in one of the popular newspaper of India. It showed the pictures of protest against the constitution declaration in some parts of Nepal. But they didn’t show the “Diwali” celebrated by majority of us welcoming the constitution.Instead they throw in a random figure,40% were against the constitution declaration? Are you insane?Has your reporting skills come down to this level?Give me a proof that 40% of Nepali were against it,justify it and I will take back my words.Let me tell you on behalf of all Nepalese people,We are more than happy to welcome our constitution. It speaks for the rights of all people.Yes,there are some unsatisfied forces, but we are trying our best to reach a consensus. Not all the Madheshi, people are against the constitution.I am a Madhesi as well, but I welcome and support my constitution.I hope your reporting skills get better. If not,you will receive the words from your own people.Nothing more to say!
Thank you!

15 point open letter to Modi from an angry Nepali

Respected Narendra Modi ji,
Please do the following:
  • Remember what you had said in your address to our Constituent Assembly during your first visit to Nepal.
  • Please remember the oath you took as India's Prime Minister that you would uphold India's Constitution. Article 51 of the Indian Constitution urges you to respect the sovereignty of other countries.
  • Keep in mind that the amity between India and Nepal isn't restricted to Madhesis. Your goodwill should also be towards the Pahadis who brave various difficulties and are ready to give up their lives on the battlefield for India.
  • Ask a few scholars, Nepal's new Constitution is the best in matters of social justice and equality. It is far superior to the Indian Constitution.
  • The hue and cry your "servants" are raising against Nepal's constitution is completely false. Your corrupt intelligence agents and officials are perpetuating this fraud to deceive you and pursue their vested interests. Please summon a group of constitutional experts, call people from Nepal as well and see it for yourself. And please promise that you will not spare the people who have misled you.
  • Let me tell you that those who are creating a furore in the name of Madhesis are the same individuals who were defeated by the voters in the elections to the second Constituent Assembly.
  • They ran away from the Constituent Assembly, but they did not resign.
  • After his loss in the elections, Rajendra Mahato said that his defeat is India's defeat.
  • Rajendra Mahato, Upendra Yadav and Amresh Singh issued a fatwa to Tharu tribes that they should take up arms and kill Pahadis and security forces. That is exactly what happened. Eight people, including an SSP, were mercilessly burnt to death. A one-year old child was shot only because he was a police official's child
  • At every place people were told that they should revolt and kill Pahadi rulers, the police and government officials and destroy government property.
  • You are committing proxy aggression on us. You have imposed an undeclared blockade on us. Many of the protestors pelt stones from Indian territory. They get food and shelter in India.
  • These protestors may become part of the government. They will loot the country. But by then, Nepali society would have been divided into two parts: patriots on one side and India's brokers on the other. Is this what you want?
  • These people are destroying Madhes. Madhes will become the hub of terrorism, not just for Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal but for the entire world.
  • You would recall that when India's Constituent Assembly was drafting its Constitution, the British government came with its agenda. Jawaharlal Nehru's response to them was, "We have decided on how our Constitutional is to be drafted". With what face are your officials telling us how to draft our Constitution?
  • As your well-wisher, I must warn you that there are many people here who are waiting to see you fail. Send someone wise or call us, we are willing to pass your test.
